What's an idiom?
An Idiom can be said a group of words like “Piece of cake”, “Takes two to tango”, “Beat around the bush”, “Better late than never” etc. often do we come across such phrases that have two different meanings- the figurative non-literal one and the literal one. These phrases or expressions are called Idiom, which is an important component of any language and helps to add depth and dynamism to an otherwise normal or mundane conversation/writing.
Examples of Idiom
- gang up on someone: to unite as a group against someone
They're sometimes ganging up on me
Johnnie says the girls in his class are ganging up on him and teasing him
- take it easy: rest, relax, or be calm
- allusion: something that is said or written that is intended to make you think of a particular thing or person
